— Following a party-line vote by the Senate Judiciary Committee to advance his nomination, Acting U.S. Attorney General Todd Blanche expressed his commitment to supporting state-level pro-life protections and addressing cross-border mail-order abortion drugs.

Federal Strategy on State Pro-Life Protections

During a July 30 conference call organized by the White House Faith Office with religious leaders across the nation, Blanche outlined efforts between the Department of Justice, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Food and Drug Administration, and the White House to align federal practices with state statutes protecting the unborn.

Blanche emphasized that the administration seeks to ensure state laws enacted following the Supreme Court‘s Dobbs decision are respected nationwide. According to a report first published by Stateline, Blanche told faith leaders that federal officials are actively designing policies to prevent out-of-state entities from circumventing local regulations through chemical abortion distribution.

Ongoing Legal and Regulatory Reviews

The distribution of chemical abortion medications, primarily mifepristone, remains a focal point of ongoing legal challenges and administrative reviews. A 2023 regulatory change allowed mifepristone to be dispensed by mail following virtual consultations, enabling out-of-state providers to send medication into jurisdictions with strict abortion limitations. The FDA is currently conducting a safety review of the medication, with findings expected by late December.

Additionally, state legal actions—such as a lawsuit filed by Louisiana challenging the federal mail-order rules—highlight growing efforts to reinforce state sovereignty over healthcare standards and consumer protections.

While addressing participants on the call, Blanche noted that establishing comprehensive administrative solutions requires systematic coordination across federal agencies.
